Non-Superwash Yarns

  • My 100% Brushed Suri Alpaca is a soft-as-a-cloud, luxury base.

Suri is a rarer alpaca fibre sourced from the Peruvian Andes, from smaller farms whose way of life is their animals. The mill works closely with the farmers. Alpaca farming also has a low environmental impact.

Alpaca contains no lanolin and is hypoallergenic. This makes this yarn suitable for baby knits and people with sensitive skin. It therefore also makes an excellent substitute for mohair and any patterns that recommend mohair.

Alpaca also has unique thermal properties because of the microscopic air pockets found in the fibre. It does not pill, is smooth and silky and extremely warm, but breathes brilliantly with great moisture resistance and is naturally flame-retardant.

This yarn is perfect for shawls, scarfs, tops and jumpers and any product where you would like to have a fluffy appearance. It is suitable for garments for all ages.

Please treat this delicate yarn with care. I would recommend hand washing your finished product in cool water and laying it to dry flat. Do not tumble dry.

Fingering/4 ply/Sock weight:- 400m/437.45yds per 100g skein. Brushed boucle construction singles yarn.

Corriedale has a similar softness and bounce to Merino, with a well defined crimp. It is truly a universal yarn, as its increased durability also makes it suitable for socks!

Wool retains air and has excellent moisture resistance and wicking properties. Because it breathes so well, it can be used for garments year-round and is suitable for all ages. It is very durable and has great drape and elasticity.

This fantastic yarn is suitable for a large range of projects from jumpers and shawls to socks. It is suitable for garments for all ages.

This yarn cannot be tumble dried. I would recommend hand washing your finished product in cool water, with as little agitation as possible and laying it to dry flat.

  • My organic non-superwash merino is Peruvian, from small herders in the mountains where sheep are their livelihoods.

Merino is the finest quality of wool and therefore this yarn feels ridiculously soft and smooth. The yarn has superb drape and a subtle sheen, whilst also being lightweight.

This blend produces a soft yet hearty, slightly rustic, durable yarn.

As the natural base for Bluefaced Leicester is a creamy-white and the natural base for this Masham is mid brown, the appearance of this base is a slightly heathered, muted brown base.

  • Quite possibly the most softest, beautiful yarn I have ever squished. This is a beautiful non-superwash blend of 40% superfine alpaca, 20% merino and 20% silk. It is a single ply, roving style.

Suri is sourced from the Peruvian Andes, from smaller farms whose way of life is their animals. The mill works closely with the farmers. Alpaca farming also has a low environmental impact.

Silk is smooth, shiny, soft and luxurious and merino is the finest quality of wool. Therefore, this delicate combination feels ridiculously soft and smooth.

What does superwash mean?

Any yarn which is referred to as being “superwash” has been through a treatment process to make the wool fibres more resistant to shrinking. There have previously been concerns about the content of water discharging from this process. However, all of my superwash yarns are treated in highly regulated plants in the UK and Europe and any water discharged is actually better than drinking water!
