Yarn Advent Calendar Pattern Ideas

Hello!

I hope you’re having a wonderful week.

The weather has taken a definite turn here and the light is creeping away quicker in the evenings, so I’m busy planning away for my Autumn and Winter makes. Top of the list is deciding what I’m going to make with this year’s advent calendar, so I thought I’d share some of my ideas with you!

This year’s calendar is 24 x 20g, individually numbered and packaged skeins of either 100% British BFL or 100% Merino fingering. Although, you can of course hold the yarn double to achieve closer to a DK or Worsted weight.

Will you wait and organise the colours yourself, or work it up through the month of December? Personally, I love the excitement of working it up as I tear open each day and the calendar will be designed to flow cohesively from day-to-day as well as, as a whole for this reason!

You can pick out some colours for colourwork or stripes, hats, gloves or socks, clothes for little people or perhaps a striped, marled or colourwork garment for yourself? There are gorgeous blankets, throws and shawl patterns aplenty. Then perhaps with the leftovers, you can make some little ornaments or a scrappy blanket or cowl? I’ve found some mini sweater and ball ornament patterns that only use around 5m of yarn, so you really can use every last scrap!

I will also be adding undyed yarn to the website to give you the option of alternating stripes or squares or marling. Or what about adding a main colour, perhaps something on the deeper end of the spectrum?

Take a look at some of my pattern suggestions below or click here to visit my Pinterest board. I currently have around 100 ideas pinned over there, but be sure to follow the board and let me know any ideas you have and I’ll be sure to keep it updated!

Do you enjoy pattern planning as much as I do?!
